I started my journey to Asia in May 2003 when I came to South Korea to teach English. Now, almost 2 years later I will begin another journey. This one a little more exciting. I am going to travel SE Asia for about 4 months before I head to Taiwan to teach for another year.

Crazy monkeys and back to Ko Phangan

What happens when we rent kayaks and sail the ocean blue to Monkey Beach? We get attacked by crazy monkeys! We decided one day to rent a kayak and go to a beach called Monkey Beach. When we get there, a few tourists were feeding all the monkeys and they were going crazy for the food frenzy. We decided to get some snorkeling done and cool off first before we play with our furry friends. We leave our garbage bag full of all of our stuff, along with some water bottles on the boat. Karl came in the water a little later to tell us that some monkeys were attacking our boat and trying to get in our bag so he tied it up tightly and hung it in a tree. When I got irritated with my mask getting all foggy I went back to shore to find 2 monkeys in our boat going through our stuff and attempting to drink our water. Those smart monkeys actually figure out how to get our bag down from the tree and started opening it to get through our stuff. They also made a hole in the water bottle so they could drink the water spilling out. They wouldn't leave the boat when I walked up so I had to get a stick to scare them with. It got them out of the boat all right, but then they got their friends and hissed at me from a knocked down tree! They wouldn't let me back by the boat! Crazy monkeys! A woman runs a tiny business selling drinks, snacks and monkey food to tourist told us that one of the monkeys steals an orange Fanta everyday and runs off to the jungle to drink it! These monkeys are smart.

Our nights on Phi Phi consisted of mostly drinking and there were some interesting contests that Karl and Ty couldn't resist. One was the drinking contest, which made me sick to even watch. They had to drink a full bottle of water, then a bucket of Thai whiskey, red bull and coke and then down three shots. Way too much alcohol for me, but they did the Canadians great and won the contest with the quickest time. Then, the obvious thing to do after that was to enter the dancing contest. They were very funny dancing to the reggae tunes, but didn't end up winning that one. Two older Thai men that had to dance to hard rock won that I guess fair and square...It is their country.

We had to say good-bye to Phi Phi and had the long journey across the country to Ko Phangan. It took 12 hours of boats, buses, taxis and boats again to get here, and right in the middle of monsoon season. I loved this island before and now it's not the same. It's the low season, so not many people are here and the waves are very choppy and come up to the bungalows, so it leaves no beach at all to lay on. It's very different than before, but it could be good. Note to self...It rains a lot in November on this side of Thailand! Oh well, I'll have a great time anyways. I've just spent the day in my hammock reading and relaxing and I even made it to the gym for an hour or so. High five for me! Well, I'm off to start my night with a bucket or two...Yay!

Made in Taiwan!!!

We MISS you so, so much Cind!

Well as Cind has written, she has left Taiwan and in her honor we will attempt to keep this blog updated! It will never come close to being as good as it was when she did it, and we are useless with taking pictures and writing stories, but we will try.

We just wanted to say our goodbyes to our fabulous friend, who we miss beyond words. Hope things work out for you at home, and we are jealous as hell about you being in Thailand :) have fun!

Love you always.......see you in the next place for the next adventure!

love Bunny, T and Tynee xxxx

The next installment of made in Taiwan coming soon.........

Yay to sun, sand and beer!

Ahhhh....Like the wise words of my fellow traveler, Ian, I have been hit over the head with the relaxation hammer. It has all sunk in that I'm in Thailand after my beautiful day laying on the beach and swimming. We've finally made it to one of my favorite islands in Thailand, Ko Phi Phi. You may have read about it in my last blog. This is the place that got devastated by the tsunami and Tanya and I volunteered for a few days in the cleanup process. Well, I'm back and this place looks awesome. You can still see some of the devastation, but life is back to normal and they are building up the guesthouses, bars, restaurants and shops very quickly. It's absolutely gorgeous here and words can not describe.

We stayed in Bangkok for the day when we first arrived. I got the boys to have a girlie day with me and we got massages, waxings, haircuts and pedicures. It was all very fun and relaxing and a great way to start my unexpected holiday. That night we caught the very fun and really old train down to Surattani. I swear I thought the train would derail at any time and actually kept waking up thinking we did derail. It was so old and we had the fan cooled compartment, so all windows open and very refreshing. The train actually had a "party" car and had dance music and blinking lights, so that was good for a nightcap. We arrived in Surratani at 6am and then took a 4 hour bus ride to Phuket. We finally made it to Patong Beach, which is not really girl friendly. However, the boys did have a fun time and I had lots of sleeping early. Patong is full of old men in speedos picking up young Thai women or men for that matter. It's amazing what these girls will do. Last time I was in Patong I was with another girl, but I saw first hand what these guys go through. Girls just walk up and grab whatever part of the body they want to and it's usually in the mid-region. Like I said, not a very girl friendly environment. I convinced the boys that we had to get out and go to Phi Phi ASAP and I think they were ready to go also. So, now we reside here and do nothing but relax all day, oh and eat and drink.

Tonight is a Thai holiday called, "Loi Krathong" and it should be really cool to see. It's a lantern festival and they set lit lanterns out to the sea. I'm not sure what it means, but hopefully I'll find out tonight. I'm just happy to be laying on the beach again on a beautiful island paradise. We'll probably not want to leave anytime soon! I have a nice sunburn and my stress is all gone. Yay!!!

New Adventure Begins...Thailand part III

I have been abducted by two new characters in my blog story. Ty and Karl came to visit us in Taiwan a couple weeks ago. One night and after a few beers they convinced me that Thailand was where I needed to be and a week later I sit in an Internet cafe on Khao San Road in Bangkok. Spontaneous decisions always make for a good time. So, my blog will be up and running again, so keep checking. Karl has been waiting to be featured in the blog and I think that was his only motive in getting me to come to Thailand...haha! Many stories will be waiting for you in the next couple weeks. Now, I have to get my shopping, massaging and drinking on since it's my first day back in Thailand...the land of smiles! Ahhhhh! It's good to be back! I won't be looking forward to the "Hey lady, you want room...cheap, cheap!" though.
